A native of Washington DC, but now resident in South Carolina, where he serves as a youth leader for the Church of God in Christ, Everett Silver is clearly a talented young singer/songwriter. He has already ministered alongside the likes of Shirley Caesar, Larnelle Harris and The Winans, and has appeared on various television broadcasts. This recording, which appears to be his debut, is a fine airing of his repertoire - around half of which tunes were written or co-written by the man himself. Everett's vocals are distinctive, with a smooth, silky sound uncannily akin to that of Stevie Wonder. His musical styling isn't dissimilar either - mainly flowing, soulful ballads which are easily engaging yet comforting to the ears. Of these, the prophetic, self-penned "I Am God", stands out and is repeated later as a "Live Mix" version. The delicate and acoustic, though short-lived "Gift Of Love" is another gem. Other tracks - notably "World's In Need Of L.U.V.", with an added rap, and "Power Of Love", contain definite elements of funk, at which genre Silver seems finely adept. "The closing track is a gospel rearrangement of the "Star-Spangled Banner" and is dedicated to all American troops in Iraq (of whom his own sister appears to be one). On all tracks, the main man's silky, versatile vocals and the proficiency of this set's production make it an above average gospel release.
